Get to grips with govenors and loyalty first.Ĭyrus is such a dick, but playing as him is amazing tbf. Glad to hear, you're probably doing it the most logical way. Good luck and just keep playing one more turn. I'd really suggest watching some videos/streams by potatomcwhiskey or thegamemechanic. I can't strongly enough recommend sticking with it as it does increase the games playability in the long run and fixes so many issues with the AI too (See my post yesterday on r/civ6. Got burnt several times in warfare as the AI would have superior units to me all the time.Īs I said, i remember the same feeling as you when stepping up to play Gathering storm and that was with having the benefit of playing Rise and Fall. Just understanding this was a real head test and trying to manage them was hard as I was so uncertain of the timings. Before, horses lasted several eras, now they get upgraded into coursers, then into courassiers etc. The biggest change for me thougb in GS is how many new units are introduced. Instead of having horses and being able to build a seemingly endless amount you now need to manage those resources much more closely and they can run out very quickly. Gathering storm introduces all of the effects of weather etc and also completely changes the mechanics of how you use strategics. Plus the governors, for me, were an exciting new element. I thought this was great as it stopped the AI just settling anywhere like idiots without impunity. R&F introduced loyalty and governors only. It wasnt so bad for me as I played rise and fall as a stepping stone first. It certainly is huge amount to take in and learn. Any feedback/advice would be very welcome at this point. Should I persevere and continue playing with the new rules/mechanics? Does it get better as you get used to it? Is the learning curve as steep as it seems to me right now? Should I just stick to the vanilla game and give up on playing with new leaders?Ĭiv 6 had quickly become my go to game to relax and unwind from work, but I’m so disappointed if I can’t play with the new leaders/civs. I would love to be able to play the newer leaders with vanilla rules and mechanics, but that does not seem to be an option. Maybe series vets enjoy the new mechanics but I am so disappointed. Having to manage city loyalties, governors, random volcanoes, floods, etc. So far I don ‘t like the changes made to the game at all. I purchased the expansions (Rise and Fall & Gathering Storm) then quickly realized I couldn’t play any of the new leaders without having to play with the new rules and game mechanics. I became curious enough to want to try out new leaders to experience more unique units and civs. I played the Vanilla version of Civ 6 for a while and really enjoyed it it was very intuitive and relatively easy to learn. I also play on console (my wife monopolizes the computer as she works from home and I’ll never afford a 2nd PC for gaming), so I can’t consider mods in this discussion. So I’m basically new to Civ so I don’t have prior Civ games as a point of reference to compare to.
